new england's dreaming

there's no better way to spend a fall day in northampton, ma than working on your composition and visiting your friends and their beautiful newborn baby.

dancing on our graves

cave singers new video just went up on pitchfork. it's fantastic. hopefully one day i'll get to drive across the country with these dudes.

things to note: the producers found all these people and they are real deal religious people. they thought the song was great and were really into learning their parts. the guy playing the guitar was intent on playing it properly even though derrick plays the guitar much like a bass. and he has no hand. he has a little half formed finger nub at the end of his elbow. apparently it was bleeding cause he was shredding so hard.

check out derricks blog for some photos of the shoot.

i love the fleetwood mac vibe in this band.

burn out?

can you wait until you have to use the colossal universal remote?

we're too old to go to snoqualmie falls

lately my last nights in town have been getting better and better.

yesterday started out good with a 4 pm lunch with buzzo at flore. and then a stop by le pink. the sky was getting super hazy from the fires and the air a little hard to breathe.

L1000458

the le pink window is amazingly creepy. i don't think laura intended for it to be the perfect halloween window display.

then just a few hours after lunch Anh took me to a ramen place in little tokyo that i had never been too. i thought i wasn't hungry but this place smelled so good next thing i know i ate a giant bowl of ramen. the secret is that they boil pig bones in their broth for 24 hours. so good! so good i didn't even take any photos. but good enough that someone else did and put it up on the internet where i stole it.... it felt like tokyo in there. even down to the waiter saying "sumimasen" like 100 times. and that is a whole egg floating in there.

Daikokuya2

i wish i was there again tonight. tonight i had pretzels.

and then after dinner i raced up to the echo to see the cave singers! so awesome. i love their record. i love those guys. i've known derrick for like 10 years. and now i know so many of his other old friends. that it's a total friendship party when people like him come to town. i mean it's totally gay.... but when i walked in there last night and saw cali, arlie, ingrid, jessie and leona and derrick on stage well, i was happy.

in between days

wanna know the only good thing about working for a band that is doing an instore at amoeba?
they give you like $60 credit to go buy whatever you want.

here's what i bought. not that i am disappointed with any of my purchases, but keep in miind that you spend a few hours working and then have like 15 minutes to buy stuff. so not a lot of browsing is happening is what i am sayng. it's more like a game show shopping spree.

sf:
nirvana "in utero" cd used $4.99 (what's up bobee?)
wooden shjips s/t cd new (with bonus cd) $13.99
fucked up "the black hats / year of the pig" 12" $8.99
godard criterion collection "masculin feminin" dvd $28.99

la:
siouxsie and the banshees "the scream" used cd $4.99

now for the bad news. i'm off to boston in the morning for the east coast part of this tour. it's bad enough going to boston EVER. but to have to go 3 days after they beat my team, the cleveland indians? another occasion to say: fuck this shit.

a giant step each day

here's my love hate dilemma with this photo. i love it, cause obviously it's a cute baby photo.
but

you never wanted to say "fuck it." when you were one.

19731974_001

and that's all i think about when i see my baby photos.

October 20, 2007

it's the dirtiest clean i know.

wouldn't it be awesome if the angry samoans "lights out" was the official theme? yes, it would be.

headbanger face

dudes!
dudes!
amazing tour stop today in portland.
i'm in the dressing room, hard at work, and someone says to me "hey somebody's here for you." and i look up. cause i was on the floor trying to get my janky phone charger (broken) into the one and only position that it will charge. and there is a girl there with two ziploc bags of cookies.

a week ago or so mike posted a blog telling people to come say hello to me. and someone listened. dude, remember that time i told you i was tony soprano and you were big pussy? (mom, don't re-read that one. it's bad enough that you read it once.) well, i take that back.

meet shayla.my new portland friend. an amazing conversationalist and a fantastic photographer.

she brought cookies! my rep for baked goods loving precedes me. they are delicious. i am eating them in my bunk now.

L1000432_2

it was so rad to have someone show up out of the blue but exist entirely on the same relative plane that you do. inspiration!

L1000433

so far chicago and portland totally represented. i guess seattle did too. just not with locals. but that's not their fault i flaked on letting people know i was in town. but chicago and portland! yes. the weber grill aside. look! this is where i sleep. the cookies from portland, the mcphee book from chicago. thanks!

L1000438

tomorrow i think i am going to go to the Olafur Eliasson at the SFMOMA. who wants to go?
thanks to new pal owleypatrol for the heads up.
